MnDOT commissioner to speak Friday in Spicer
WILLMAR — Minnesota Department of Transportation Commissioner Charles Zelle is the featured guest Friday in Spicer at a Highway 23 Coalition transportation rally for completion of a four-lane connection from Willmar to Interstate 94.
The coalition's luncheon and discussion is from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Friday at Johnny O'Neil's in Spicer.
The Highway 23 Coalition was formed to pursue completion of the four-lane. Environmental reviews have been completed, but there is no funding to complete construction.
Zelle is expected to travel to the meeting from Paynesville and see firsthand the southern gap in the four-lane on state Highway 23. There are seven miles of two-lane highway between Paynesville and New London. The northern gap between Paynesville and Richmond is eight miles.
Zelle is expected to tour the locations of other transportation projects in the region Friday as well, including an afternoon visit to Willmar to see the Willmar Wye railroad bypass project area and the new Kandiyohi County Road 5 bridge.
